A photo note from Rob-
This photo, taken in the depths of the Escalante Canyons, is one of my favorites. It was Memorial Day weekend in 1969 and my first backpack trip into Jacob Hamblin Arch. I was blown-away by the scale so, after pondering the possibilities, I climbed as high as I could inside the arch and stationed myself on a rock and waited until several of my companions made the quarter mile walk from camp to fill water bottles at the fresh water seep on the opposite side of the arch. Using my trusty Weston light meter, an East German, Exacta SLR, wide-angle lens and the magic of Kodachrome we got the shot. Although not as sharp as it once was, we have an image that still amazes me every time I see it. For me, that’s what photography is all about.
